Wilton Manors, FL (November 26, 2012) The Pride Center, in conjunction with Women With Pride, SAGE and Women in Network, is sponsoring the 7th Annual Judy Shepherd Toy Drive for the children at Thurgood Marshall Elementary School. Toy donations will directly impact underprivileged children, some with disabilities and other special needs, currently attending the school. Toys are collected around the area at participating drop locations throughout Oakland Park, Ft. Lauderdale and Wilton Manors from now until December 16th.
“The Pride Center is proud to support the Judy Shepherd toy drive for the seventh year to benefit children whose families may have limited resources this season,” said Robert Boo, Executive Director of The Pride Center. Ronni B. Dowd, Chair of the Toy Drive Committee added, “Our partners and friends around the community continue to respond to the enormous needs of many local families by hosting drop-boxes, donating toys and money, and helping to create a memorable holiday season for children in Wilton Manors.”
Drop boxes can be found at: The Pride Center, FastPrintz, Eco‐Friendly Automotive, New Moon Bar, Bank United, Best Buy ‐ Davie, Best Buy ‐ Federal Hwy FTL, Best Buy ‐ 17st CSWY, We Got The Beats, Starbucks – Wilton Manors, Rosie’s Bar & Grill, Sidelines, Grateful Palate, Mojo’s Barbershop, Nuts About Yogurt, Gelato Station, Wells Fargo, and Sidelines. According to Donna Woessner, Coordinator of Women With Pride, “The toys we collect from this drive will be sorted according to grade level and distributed right before the holidays. We hope they will help make the holidays brighter for the children at Thurgood Marshall!”
The Toy Drive is named after Judy Shepherd, a local community activist who started the Toy Drive in 2005. Judy Shepherd passed away earlier this year, but her legacy of community philanthropy continues through this toy drive and the annual school supply drive she also created.
