JYNNEOS Dosage

JYNNEOS is for subcutaneous injection only. In the USA, it is administered 2-doses (0.5 mL each) 28 days apart. People who receive JYNNEOS are not considered vaccinated until they receive both vaccine doses. Full protection is not conferred until two weeks after receipt of the second dose. However, robust antibody response following a single dose of JYNNEOS has been observed in clinical trials. On August 2, 2022, the U.S. FDA confirmed that pending any new data that show that two doses of JYNNEOS are not required for adequate protection against monkeypox virus infection, ‘we need to rely on the currently approved two-dose regimen at this time to ensure those who receive the vaccine can feel confident in their protection.’

According to Virologist Maureen Ferran, a study of the efficacy of Jynneos shows that one shot can offer protection for up to two years but that a second shot is still recommended for maximum protection. They also state that even those infected with monkey pox can still get their vaccine as it is before 6 days from initial infection. However, the CDC’s official position is that there is no conclusive data on the efficacy of Jynneos.
